Looking for a compact piano that won’t disturb the neighbours? Try this unfretted clavichord made in Saxony, Germany around 1740! Because of its low volume, it’s great for smaller rooms and won’t have your neighbours banging on your door to keep the noise down. Only drawback is it might be difficult to get ahold of one… Go view this keyboard in Edinburgh, Scotland at St. Cecilia’s Music Museum.

The last pic shows how much fun this class was on Wednesday. The group has gelled and interacts with each other and most exciting is the sound of 6 keyboards combined as they play 4 different parts. Everyone agreed that next week we should record the progress to date. We’ll squeeze it in during next week’s piano party! 🎹🎃👻

Students are enjoying playing seasonal pieces including Rolling Pumpkin from Educational creative pieces let students learn while having fun. 🎃👻

In this class, Rhythm Battle required a tie breaker between the 2 teams! Then for the win, as students played the 3 piano parts together, with backing tracks, they heard themselves in sync! 😀😀😀

Send clip cards home with your students! They’re easy to use and also to correct by text. These went home with a creative girl; as you can see she used a water-based marker to make a different shape on each card to indicate her answer. The class got a kick out of the creepy artwork 🎃😶‍🌫️

Teams listen and decide which card has the correct rhythm they heard. Secret points on the backs of the cards are tallied and this time the boys won!

Apparently, “Spinets were low-cost versions of harpsichords with just a single keyboard and little decoration.” Most of these compact instruments were made in England but could have a good playing volume. This one in St. Cecilia’s Museum, Edinburgh, Scotland, was made by Thomas Hitchcock in London, England. I think the size is much like having a digital piano in the corner of the room. Any out there have a spinet at home?
