𧑠Listening, Learning, and Remembering at KCI π§‘
To honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Mr. Jacobs organized learning activities and a Witness Blanket art project for our Grade 5β8 students.
The original Witness Blanket, created by Indigenous artist Carey Newman, brings together hundreds of objects from residential schools and communities across Canada. These pieces tell stories, honour survivors and the children who never returned home, and remind us of our responsibility to remember. (careynewman.ca)
Inspired by this work, our students are creating a collaborative art piece that will be displayed in the junior end of our school. Through learning and reflection, we are helping students understand the history of residential schools and the importance of honouring survivors, their families, and their communities.
Check out the beginning of our Witness Blanket art piece! More blanket pieces will be added as students continue contributing to this shared project.
