# # # 🍂 Fall Leaves Provocation — 3–5 Room
This morning, our provocation was closely connected to the season we are experiencing. We set up a table with **sticks collected during our walks** and invited the children to gather some leaves from outdoors. Together, we slowed down and began paying close attention to the leaves—looking at their **changing colours, textures, shapes, and moisture**.
The children noticed that some leaves felt dry and crisp, while others were soft and watery. This opened up many curious questions and conversations: *Why are the colours changing? Why does this leaf feel wet? How did the texture change? Did someone spray water on it? Where did the water come from?*
Rather than giving the children answers, educators stayed alongside their thinking, listening to their theories and extending their questions. The children touched, observed, compared, collected, and revisited their ideas as they explored the natural materials.
This experience reflects the **BC Early Learning Framework**, particularly the living inquiry of **“Engagement with Others, Materials and the World”**—creating opportunities for children to develop curiosity, make connections, investigate, and construct their own theories through meaningful experiences with the natural world.
