Why cybersecurity? For Terry Khumujam, it’s about preparing for the future. 💻

Originally from Manipur, India, Terry is a second-year student in the Computer Network and Cybersecurity Diploma.

The program allows him to expand his background in computer science and pursue a career in a field he sees growing alongside AI and the rise of cyberattacks.

He chose TRU for the diversity and fun activities, including IDays, that make campus life much more than just studying.

Why do some people maintain their cognitive abilities better as they age? 🧠

New research at TRU is bringing together cognitive neuroscience, cardiovascular physiology and biomedical engineering to explore the connections between aging, brain function, vascular health and cognition.

“Aging affects everyone differently, and we still have much to learn about why some people maintain their cognitive abilities better than others,” says Psychology Associate Professor Dr. Claudia Gonzalez Lozano.

The research is supported by $226,796 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund.

Meet TRU Gaglardi alum Stephanie Hutchinson who discovered an unexpected career path and proves that changing your mind and path can lead to success! 🎓

Q: What’s one lesson or experience from TRU that stayed with you in your career?
A: That any course can completely change your trajectory. I didn’t plan on a career in accounting. In fact, I was dreading that first-year course and put it off until my second year. It wasn’t until I finally attended the course and began working through the modules that I realized this was something I not only excelled at, but I enjoyed.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your profession?
A: I work remotely as the founder of Ledge Forty Financial Corporation, a public accounting firm. My career is built around the importance of financial literacy and education, allowing me to be of service to Canada’s small business owners and not-for-profit organizations. Every day brings meaningful interactions with Canadians who are changing this world and I wake up excited to support them in their endeavours. Because of this, I can say with honesty that I love what I do.”

Indigenous wildfire evacuees have firsthand knowledge of what works during an evacuation and where support may fall short.

A TRU research project with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc is listening directly to those experiences to help improve future emergency supports. More than 2,250 people expressed interest in participating.

“The extraordinary response from evacuees underscores the importance of creating opportunities for lived experience to inform research,” says VP Research Dr. Shannon Wagner.
