This one for the woman whose business is genuinely doing well, and who can't quite catch a full breath.
You know the numbers are good. Some honest part of you would still describe it as a weight. Something that keeps adding on.
That's not ingratitude, and it's not a mindset leak. Your nervous system doesn't measure whether your life is good. It measures how much, how fast, how many people are counting on you. So the growth reads as load in the same channel a threat would. And a growing business quietly removes the one thing the body needs...
a finish line
because every win becomes the next thing to hold before anything gets to land.
The full essay is on my Substack, Wealth Within
If it names something you've been living, you can follow along there for more writing on nervous-system-informed growth and staying with yourself when life asks more of you.
Why Your Thriving Business Feels Like a Weight
The business is working and you can't catch a full breath. On what your nervous system is actually measuring.

There is a specific kind of frustration that comes when you’ve already worked the pattern.
You’re not meeting it for the first time.
You’ve brought it to therapy. Coaching. Somatic work. Parts work. Your journal. Your best friend. The voice note you recorded in your car and never sent.
You know the shape of it.
And then something touches the same place again.
A client wants more from you.
Someone sees you with more clarity than you expected.
You need to name the price.
You need to let someone be disappointed.
You want something, and wanting it makes your whole system start managing the room.
Your mind knows more now.
Your body may still be carrying the part that never got to complete what it prepared to do.
That is where this work gets more precise.
I’m less interested in giving you another explanation for the pattern and more interested in listening for the response under it.
Where does it start?
Where does it stop?
Where do you leave yourself?
Sometimes completion is small.
A hand gets to push.
A no gets more tone.
The impulse to leave gets felt without blowing up the whole life.
The body gets to experience a little more choice at the place choice used to disappear.
This is not about forcing a release or performing healing on command.
It’s about enough support, enough capacity, and the right dose.
Because the body does not update through insight alone.
It updates through experience.
If this gave language to something you’ve been living, I wrote the fuller version on Substack.
It goes deeper into completion, survival responses, and why some patterns return even after a lot of inner work.
You can read it through the link in my bio
And if this is your world, follow along. I write about nervous system-informed growth, self-trust, and the patterns that show up when life starts asking more of you.
Small note: This is coaching education through a Somatic Experiencing®-informed lens. It is not a diagnosis or clinical treatment plan.

I wrote this one for the person who has had the slightly maddening experience of understanding a pattern and still watching their body do the old thing.
You know where it came from.
You’ve worked with it.
You may even have a lot of compassion for it now.
And still, there can be a moment where something gets close enough, being seen, saying the thing, receiving more, letting someone be disappointed, and your body reaches for the response it learned a long time ago.
That part is easy to make mean something about yourself.
I used to.
In this essay, I’m writing about completion, unfinished survival responses, and why a pattern can still fire after all the healing.
Not because the healing wasn’t real.
Because sometimes the body needs a different experience at the exact place the old response usually takes over.
You can read it here: https://justinesteel.substack.com/p/why-old-patterns-still-fire-after

Why Old Patterns Still Fire After All the Healing
Completion, unfinished survival responses, and why your body can repeat an old pattern after therapy, coaching, and somatic work.
