Located on the first floor of the Old Main Building (OM 1411), the Writing Centre provides free, one-on-one instructional support to all TRU students, staff, and faculty. Our primary goal is to help the TRU community become better, more confident writers. To that end, we work interactively with our clients on all aspects of writing, and at all stages of the writing process. Our tutors—composed primarily of skilled, upper-year students (from disciplines all over campus), community volunteers, and university faculty—will assist writers with everything from brainstorming ideas and researching topics to tightening grammar, enhancing the text’s overall structure and organization, and properly citing sources. In addition, the centre offers its clients access to a wide variety of electronic and print resources on the art and craft of writing in order to further supplement their knowledge of the writing process. Finally, our tutors can work with writers on all types of writing, including, essays, reports, critiques, reviews, proposals, resumes, labs, and all manner of business composition. The Writing Centre operates by way of appointment or on a drop-in basis.
