Theresa Westhaver (she/they) is the owner and founder of Mountain Stek̓lép. She is of proud Secwépemc, Cree Métis and mixed settler ancestry and was raised with her stek'lep (roots) in the rocky mountains of Jasper, AB Canada. Mountain Stek̓lep brings together Theresa's environmental science with Traditional Ecological Knowledge, which inspires their passion for sharing sustainable art and educ
ation. Education:
With a BSc in Geography from UNBC, and academic specializations in glacial geomorphology and environmental science, Theresa is an outdoor educator, National Program Manager for Howl Experience, IGA certified Hiking Guide, IGA Apprentice Interpreter and former Indigenous Liaison. They are passionate about water and ice and in all their forms, as well as the connections between the landscape including all our plant and animal relatives. Her goal is to facilitate experiential educational experiences for folks of all ages, that encourage building respectful, reciprocal relationships with the land through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Theresa uses art as a path to revitalize their connection to culture, and her art styles range from an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary Indigenous beadwork, reusable wellness products, to a line of upcycled denim ribbon jackets and many crafts in between. She strives to use local, ethical and sustainably harvested materials, such as thrifted or reused fabrics and fur, hand-dyed natural wool fibers, antler, birchbark, leather, driftwood and quills in her artisan pieces.
