Also in June, Pirurvik convened our curriculum building teams with respected knowledge keepers from all over Nunavut. There were rich discussions and sharing of stories on a range of topics as we create the content for the next generation of Inuit learners. There is such openness and mutual respect in this group. It is very powerful.

After a busy month, the Pirurvik team are now switching our focus to prepare for the summer Makimaniq programs at Saarrut, our land-based campus. We look forward to welcoming participants in July and August!

ᖁᕕᐊᒍᑎᕙᕗᑦ 2026-ᒥ ᐃᓱᓕᑦᑎᓚᐅᖅᑐᑦ ᐱᕈᕐᕕᒻᒥ, ᐃᓄᑦᑎᑑᕆᐅᖅᐸᓪᓕᐊᓂᕐᒥᒍᓪᓗ ᐃᖏᕐᕋᐃᓐᓇᖁᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᑖᕗᖓᓕᒫᖅ.

Also in June, Pirurvik celebrated the graduation of students in our 2025-26 Aurniarvik and Qimattuvik Certificate programs. The graduation highlight is the students’ heartfelt speeches delivered entirely in Inuktut. During the ceremony graduates also received their Inuit diplomas of sealskins and niksiit that they completed while wearing atigiit and amautiit they made.

We congratulate the 2026 Pirurvik graduates and wish them the best in continuing their learning journeys.

Bringing the Qulliq Home, Taljurjuaq

In June, Pirurvik was in Talurjuaq to deliver our Bringing the Qulliq Home course. Ten Talurjuarmiut participated in learning to tend their very own qulliq, making marngutiit out of dehaired sealskin, learning how to pattern their own arninngaq and amautiit, and crafting their own ceremonial outfits! A very special thank you to Arnaoyok Alookee, member of Pirurvik's Makimaniq committee, and to Sarah Takolik for sharing their expertise in regional wear.

ᐊᖅᑯᓯᐅᕐᕕᒃ : Inuktut Instructors Diploma
Fall 2026 Registrations Now Open!
Pirurvik is receiving applications for the Aqqusiurvik Diploma to train certified Inuktut Instructors. Courses run from August 2026 to June 2027.

Students who complete all courses will receive a diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization from the University of Victoria. Pirurvik delivers Aqqusiurvik with support from the Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation.
