September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Today and every day we honour and acknowledge the survivors of the residential school system, the lost children, and their families.
Author Nellie Winters shared these thoughts about her illustrated memoir, Reflections from Them Days: A Residential School Memoir from Nunatsiavut.
Nellie Winters was raised in Okak Bay, Labrador. Her family was relocated to Makkovik in 1956 when services to the area were cut off by the provincial government. Nellie is a respected artist whose work is commissioned and exhibited by galleries, museums, and private collections around the world. Nellie is widely respected as an Elder, knowledge holder, interpreter, author, and educator.
