Join coach Andrea Parnell, coach and athlete at Cranbrook BJJ, for a no pressure introduction to Jiu Jitsu focused self defense!

SATURDAY August 22 10am-1pm

Andrea has been training for 11 years and coaching for 6. Her favorite aspect of coaching is sharing her love for Jiu Jitsu with the next generation. This session will cover the self defense aspects of jiu-jitsu:

Fundamentals of the “leverage over strength” Jiu Jitsu strategy for grappling

Managing distance using connections and frames

How to safely fall

Escaping common pins and restraints

Introduction to practical submissions for larger & stronger opponents

Confidence building games with at your own pace scaled intensity and level of contact

a guaranteed FUN session of body movement & empowerment ‍

‍Begin your skill development with this 1\2 day workshop or make it a step toward a sustained practice. Women’s only training every Friday 5:30-6:30pm. Remember, like all skills, mastery of self defense cannot happen in a single day. You WILL leave with some tools but practice is the only way to become skillful.

No experience necessary, work out cloths, a water bottle & a willingness to play are all you need, we will take care of the rest!

On behalf of the District of Invermere and Council, I want to sincerely thank everyone who worked so hard throughout the power outage this past weekend to support our community.

Our Fire Department and Public Works teams were incredible and I want to thank them. While some of our firefighters were away supporting the Ta Ta Creek wildfire response, our volunteer firefighters stepped up here at home to make sure Invermere remained covered and responded to calls that came in during the outage. Their commitment to protecting our community both here at home and in neighbouring communities is something we can all be proud of.

Thank you to our Public Works team, whose dedication and hard work helped keep our community running during the outage. Working around the clock, they maintained essential water and wastewater services, managed garbage collection, cleared fallen trees and addressed many other needs as they arose. Their efforts made a significant impact.

Thank you to the BC Hydro crews who worked to restore power, the Regional District of East Kootenay for supporting communications, regional and provincial partners, emergency responders, volunteers and everyone who stepped up to help a neighbour, support a local business to or lend a hand in any way.
Most importantly, thank you to the people of Invermere for your patience and with your willingness to look out for one another. Once again, you showed what makes this community so special.

This past weekend’s power outage was a reminder that significant weather events are happening more often and we need to continue to be prepared to support one another when they do.

One of the biggest lessons from this weekend is how important reliable communications are. Continuing to invest in communications infrastructure is a priority that has been raised by both our staff and residents and this experience reinforced just how essential it is for keeping our community connected during an emergency.

We know events like this will continue to happen and we will continue working to make sure Invermere is ready with the resources, infrastructure and the people needed to keep our community safe and connected.

On behalf of the District of Invermere, thank you to everyone who helped keep our community safe and running this weekend.

INVY WEEKENDER: ROLL AT THE LAKE

Join us for ‘Roll at the Lake,’ a relaxed Jiu Jitsu retreat combining skill development with scenic chill time. Elevate your technique while enjoying the breathtaking backdrop of Invermere’s lakeside views.

We hope to mix, mingle and share the mats with all the clubs in the East Koots, Rockies and Alberta (except the meatheads lol)!

There will be a seminar both mornings (Joey Sat and Tim Sunday) along with lots of time to hit the water or relax at the brewery. Friday night will be CLA training & coach development with Justin along with an open mat. A single day option is available & includes Friday night.

The technical focus for the weekend will be the interplay between the generalized skill of pinning & interaction with the legs (riding, pinning & entangling).

Friday 5:30pm: Women’s Only

Friday 6:30pm: CLA Practice

Friday 7:30pm: Open Mat & Coach Development

Saturday 10am: Seminar with Joey

Saturday 2:30pm: Beach Rolls, Water Sports and Hang out at Jabot Park
