I teach for Wilderness Medical Associates for a reason, actually quite a few reasons. The most robust curriculum with ongoing subject matter expert input combined with experienced supportive instructors (the trifecta of experience: outdoor skills, medical practice, and instructional techniques).

Tracing roots back to the early 1980s, Wilderness Medical Associates International began with a visionary approach to wilderness medicine, recognizing the critical need for specialized medical training in the unpredictable wilderness environment. Dr. Peter Goth identified a gap in the medical training provided to outdoor educators, wilderness guides, search and rescue team members, etc., setting the stage for the development of what would become a comprehensive, scenario-based curriculum designed to address the unique challenges of wilderness medicine.

This journey from our foundational days has seen the expansion of our courses from the rugged terrains of North America to diverse landscapes across the globe, reaching every continent and training over 10,000 students annually. Our curriculum has evolved, incorporating the latest medical research, pedagogical advancements, and feedback from a wide array of environments and situations encountered by our alumni.
