We are working with Aurora College, Sport North, the NWT’s Indigenous Sport Circle, and ICS to develop technical Northern Games how-to videos for early childhood curriculums and classrooms that can begin to utilize the games when teaching our youngest generations. Dene Games will also be recorded with instructors in Yellowknife next month.

Two of our esteemed alumni accepted King Charles III Coronation Medals at the closing ceremonies of the 2025 Northern & Dene Games Summit this week!

The Northern Games Society is proud to share that two of our alumni, Mr. Steve Cockney Sr. “Guluk” and Mr. Donald Kuptana JR. were awarded the King Charles Coronation Medal by Senator Dawn Anderson with Commissioner Gerry Kisoun present at the closing ceremonies of the Northern Games - Dene Games Summit at East Three School in Inuvik! Registration for the 2025 Traditional Games Championship (TGC) is now open!
The TGC is an annual event for athletes aged 10 to 12, featuring Northern Games and Dene Games competitions between schools from across the Northwest Territories.
We invite schools to register and declare their intent to participate. After registering, we will contact schools individually to gather roster details.
Schedule:
Friday, Feb 14 – Travel day, competition begins in evening
Saturday, Feb 15 - Full day of competition
Sunday, Feb 16 – Competition continues, concludes in the afternoon
Monday, Feb 17 – Travel day
