Our Chief Instructor, Hanshi Isao Yabunaka immigrated to Canada in 1970. He was a student of Grandmaster Gogen Yamaguchi as well as Hanshi Shuji Tasaki. He now enjoys teaching traditional Goju Ryu karate to children, teens, and adults. The dojo offers opportunities for those wanting to learn something new, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and also for athletes wanting to compete locally and internati
onally. The Seiwa Kai Canada dojo is the only dojo in Ingersoll that belongs to the Ontario Karate Federation, Karate Canada, and the World Karate Federation. All senior members are also registered with the Japan Karate Federation - Goju Kai. Instructors at the dojo are consistently updating their coaching certification with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Students at the Honbu Dojo have many opportunities to compete at the international level as well as attend seminars around the world, including the annual Seiwa Kai International Seminar in Omagari, Japan. In this dojo, there is a large emphasis on teaching discipline, respect, and proper etiquette. Students are expected to demonstrate respectful behaviour both inside and outside of the dojo.
