On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the land we operate on, the waters we paddle, and the First Nations peoples who have cared for these regions since time immemorial.
Reconciliation is not a single date or a finish line—it is an ongoing commitment to listen, learn, unlearn, and take meaningful action.

Our passion for paddling is rooted in Indigenous wisdom, ceremony and cultural. Long before modern materials existed, the hand-crafted birchbark canoe (Wiigwaasi Jiimaan) enabled navigation through Algonquin Park and Muskoka.
This remarkable engineering and cultural heritage is foundational to Algonquin Outfitters; without the stewardship and generosity of First Nations peoples, our business and connection to this wilderness would not exist. We are deeply grateful.

Don’t miss this truly unique and incredible opportunity to learn about and even participate in this ancient ceremonious birchbark canoe build by the very talented Chuck Commanda.
Chuck is a renowned master birchbark canoe builder from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation in Quebec.

He will be in Rivermill Park Huntsville for 2 weeks crafting this traditional vessel from select parts and species of various trees, bark, roots and sap harvested from regional woods.

We are so grateful and excited to support our friends Chuck and Joyce of Hope Arises Project Inc. who are bringing this to our community in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and connecting to the land and our history.
