Hubbards Solar System Project Walk, bike, and drive a scale model of our wonderful solar system. Start at the giant Sun located at You will be amazed at how big our solar system really is.

The star of the show is the Sun and its diameter determines the scale distance of every other object in our solar system. It's HUGE! Here's a fact that we just learned by researching this project. The Voyager probe is the farthest man-made object, and yet it will still take 30,000 years for it to reach the outer edge of the Oort Cloud, which is the outermost part of the solar system. Our scale model will give you a real sense of how truly vast space is. So seach out the Sun, which is 54 inches, then discover how far you need to go to travel to each planet and planetary object. But don't even think about reaching the outer edge of the Oort Cloud, unless you're prepared to travel to Argentina.

Did you know there is a planet that rains glass.

The HD 189733b, despite looking like a blue getaway it is quite the opposite. It's planets winds go up to 5,400 mph and for the cherry on top this planets surface rains razor sharp glass that moves sideways on the it's surface.

Of course 2020 wouldn't be complete without an asteroid alert.

Jupiter and Saturn are getting closer, as they near their once-in-20-years conjunction on December 21, 2020. At their closest, they'll be only 0.1 degrees apart. That's just 1/5 of a full moon diameter. Start watching them now, and you'll see them draw close together.

Welcome to our science project. For years, we looked at our solar system in the pages of books and online. It didn't look that big. It fit on one double-page spread or a single screen. But it's bigger than that. Much bigger. So we made a scale model of one. And we invite everyone to come out to Hubbards and tour the solar system we call home.
