📣 FAIR NOTICE TO PARENTS & GUARDIANS: KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE

At Maskwacîs Education Schools Commission (MESC), the safety and well-being of all awâsisak (children) and oskâyak (youth) is always our highest priority.

Sometimes, a student may make a serious threat or show behaviour that could put themselves or others at risk. When this happens, MESC may use a safety process called an Assessment of Risk to Others (ARTO), also known as a Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA).

The purpose of this process is simple: to understand the situation, respond appropriately, and help keep everyone safe.

Parents and guardians should know:

🔹 Serious threats and concerning behaviours are taken seriously.
🔹 MESC may begin an ARTO when there is a concern about the safety of students or staff.
🔹 Parents/guardians will be informed and, whenever possible, involved in developing supports and a safety plan for their child.

ARTO is about more than responding to a threat. It helps us understand what may be happening, identify supports a student may need, and take appropriate steps to protect our school communities.

Keeping our awâsisak and oskâyak safe is a responsibility we all share.

Thank you to our families for working with us to keep MESC schools safe, caring, and supportive places to learn.
