Discovery Camp is your answer to the daily "I'm bored!" you may hear! Fun for kids aged 5-12! (Must have attended Kindergarten)
Discovery Camp is a non-profit summer day program operated by the Family & Community Support Services office in the Town of Hinton. Discovery Camp has been a part of the Hinton community for 23 years. Every day, we serve 40-50 children ranging in age from 5 to 12 years. π Week 7 of Discovery Camp is done! π
What a fun-filled week we had! We got creative making slap bracelets, fortune tellers, tie-dye headbands, and Shrinky D***s, along with lots of outdoor time and a trip to Jarvis Lake! π²βοΈ
Our trip of the week brought the circus to Hinton! πͺ Amanda Panda from Hula Hoop Circus came to town for an awesome, interactive performance that had the kids laughing and having so much fun! After the show, the children got to take part in a circus workshop where they learned how to spin plates, hula hoop, and throw scarves. π€ΉββοΈβ¨
We wrapped up another awesome week with bouncy castles!

The leaders by Nature group had a fun time last week at Mary Reimer with some of the 4-H Club! They learned parts of a Western saddle, body parts of a horse, how to lariat (lasso). We learned a lot of new vocabulary. Our two new equine friends are Elvis and Fonz. Our new human friend is Carly Morin of the 4-H Club!

π²π₯ Discovery Camp β Week 6! πΆβ¨
Week 6 of Discovery Camp was another amazing week filled with adventure, learning, and LOTS of fun! π€©
We kicked off the week with a visit to the Hinton Fire Base with the Junior Forest Rangers! ππ² The kids learned how to roll up fire hoses, completed a scavenger hunt using a compass, and even got the chance to spray and put out some pretend fires! π₯Such a fun hands-on experience!
The rest of the week was packed with exciting activities, including Minute to Win It, Bean Boozled, Fear Factor, Human Knot, and plenty of team challenges and laughs!
For our trip of the week, we headed out with Wild Current Outfitters to Pyramid Lake! πΆποΈ The kids had an incredible time canoeing on the lake and taking in the beautiful mountain views. It was the perfect day to get outside and enjoy everything our area has to offer!
Another fantastic week in the books! We canβt wait to see what adventures Week 7 brings! ππ²π

π² Discovery Camp Week 5 Recap! π
Week 5 of Discovery Camp has officially come to an end, and what an incredible week it was!
We kicked off the week with our Leaders by Nature group participating in a Wilderness First Aid course with Brooke Alden and Glen Allen. It was an amazing opportunity for our leaders to build valuable outdoor safety skills. Be sure to check out the photos for a closer look at everything they learned!
The rest of the week was filled with fun at the Hinton Museum, where the amazing staff planned so many engaging games and activities for the kids like make butter!! A huge thank you to the museum team for making it such a memorable experience! π
Back at camp, the children had a blast participating in tug-of-war, trivia, charades, and plenty of other fun activities with their friends.
Our field trip of the week took us on an exciting adventure with Jasper Hikes and Tours, where the children enjoyed a scavenger hunt hike at Sixth Lake and put their knowledge to the test with a fun game of Jeopardy! Thank you to the Jasper Hikes and Tours team for providing such an unforgettable experience. π₯Ύ π² π
To wrap up an amazing week, we spent Friday bouncing away on the bouncy castles! π°

Week 4 of Discovery Camp was packed with sunshine, smiles, and adventure! βοΈπ
This week, our campers enjoyed exciting field trips to Jarvis Lake and Whitecourt Rotary Park, where they spent the days swimming, exploring, playing, and making unforgettable summer memories with friends.
The leaders by nature group volunteered at H.E.L.P and made spaghetti sauce and banana bread for the HELP clients. We walked downtown for a treat and played games at King Drug!
Back at camp, everyone stayed busy creating fun crafts, playing games, and taking part in a variety of activities that kept the creativity flowing all week long!

Week 3 of Discovery Camp was full of adventure and fun! ππ΄π
This week, campers enjoyed a variety of creative crafts, outdoor games, and exciting field trips. We explored Kelleyβs Bathtub with Alberta Parks, learning about nature and our local environment, and had an unforgettable rafting adventure with Jasper Raft Adventures! ππββοΈ
