September Character Education winners

We are proud to recognize our September Character Education winners for demonstrating Bravery and Courage throughout our school community. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

During September, we talked with students about how courage does not always mean doing something big or dramatic. Sometimes, bravery means trying something new, speaking up, asking for help, making a good choice when it is difficult, learning from a mistake, or continuing even when something feels challenging.

These students were recognized at our Character Education Assembly for showing those qualities in meaningful ways and received their HPE Pins of Honour today.

Congratulations to all of our September recipients! We are proud of the courage they show as they learn, grow, and lead by example.

๐Ÿ‚ October at HPE ๐Ÿ‚

October is full of learning, connection, and school spirit at HPE! Alongside the everyday joyful learning and activities happening in our classrooms and throughout the school, we have several special events and important dates coming up this month.

This month, we are also focusing on our school value of Respect; treating others with kindness, consideration, and care. Throughout October, students will have opportunities to learn about, demonstrate, and celebrate what respect looks like in our classrooms, hallways, playground, and wider school community.

Some highlights this month include Wellness Club, Fire Prevention Week activities, Picture Retakes, our School Council & Parent Fundraising Society meeting, and our continued fire drill practices.

We will wrap up the month on October 30 with our School Assembly and Character Education celebration focused on Respect.

And a reminder that Attendance Matters. Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and be part of our HPE community.

Please take a look at our October calendar for all upcoming dates and reminders.

๐ŸŽ Happy World Teachersโ€™ Day! Oct 5, 2026

Today, we proudly recognize and celebrate the dedicated teachers of High Prairie Elementary School.

Every day, our teachers bring knowledge, patience, creativity, compassion, and heart into their classrooms. They, and support staff, help our students discover their strengths, overcome challenges, build confidence, and experience the joy of learning.

To our HPE teachers: thank you for your commitment to our students, your support of one another, and the difference you make each and every day.

We are grateful for all that you do! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

High Prairie Elementary students welcomed ๐„๐ค๐ญ๐ข ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ญ ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐š๐ฅ on Thursday, September 24, as they gathered to honour Survivors of residential schools and those children whose lives were lost.

Ekti Margaret shared stories of her life at home, which included checking her trapline each morning before the sun was up and feeding her familyโ€™s horse herd, going down the line and touching each velvety nose one at a time to greet them. At the age of five, she was forcibly taken from her home and sent to Blue Quills Residential School, where her life drastically changed, and she was referred to thereafter as โ€˜Number 40โ€™.

Throughout the ten years she spent at residential school, though she was not allowed to speak her language out loud, she repeated the Cree stories of her childhood in her head, determined not to lose her language so that when she returned home, she would still be able to communicate with her brother, who had cerebral palsy, and her kokum and mosum.

A longtime instructor in Northern Lakes Collegeโ€™s Aboriginal Arts program, Ekti Margaret achieved a lifelong dream within the last two years when she became an educational partner at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Education.

Ekti Margaret shared a strong message with students: that each one of them has a gift they may not even be aware of yet, and that they should use those gifts, persevere through challenges and hardships, and never give up on their dreams.

Principal Mr. B shared that an important part of reconciliation includes not only honouring and remembering the past, but showing respect and kindness each day and making sure every student in the school feels safe and included.

๐Ÿซ Attendance Matters โ€“ Every Day Counts!

It is hard to believe that we have already completed four weeks of school this AY 2026-2027! We would like to thank our HPE families for helping our students settle into their classrooms, establish routines, and get off to a positive start.

As we move further into the school year, we want to highlight the importance of regular and punctual attendance. Every day at school provides opportunities for students to learn, build relationships, develop confidence, and stay connected with their classroom community. Consistent attendance helps establish strong routines and lays an important foundation for student success.

We know that there are times when students need to be away from school. When challenges begin to affect your child's attendance, learning, behaviour, friendships, or well-being, please reach out to us. Our teachers and school support team are here to listen, work with families, and help find the right supports.

Thank you, HPE families, for your continued partnership. When families and schools work together, we create the best opportunities for our children to learn, grow, and succeed.
