Our Foods students were busy in the kitchen today! 👩‍🍳
They whipped up a delicious bison lasagna (sorry, no picture, but trust us, it was yummy) and baked pies galore! 🥧
So much goodness coming out of our kitchen! 😋

Interested in starting a career in the trades while you're still in high school? A 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (𝐑𝐀𝐏) opportunity is available for students interested in becoming a 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫!

Through RAP, students can:

💵 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 – Get paid while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
🎓 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐬 – Receive credits for hours worked.
🔧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 – Receive a Blue Book and begin accumulating hours toward your apprenticeship.
🏅 𝐆𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – Develop practical skills and experience working alongside a qualified tradesperson.

Wednesday’s 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 is the final opportunity for Ward 2 families and community members to share their perspectives on this year’s engagement topics with HPSD administration and Ward 2 Board Trustees Tammy Henkel and Michael Strebchuk.

This year, we want to hear your thoughts on:

• HPSD’s literacy and numeracy interventions
• What should be included in a student code of conduct
• What good citizenship looks like
• Land-based learning
• Whether more students who are not performing at grade-level standards should repeat a grade
• Limiting student use of technology in K–4 classrooms
• A modified school year, such as year-round schooling
• Alternate programming, such as French immersion, Indigenous language programming, or Islamic or Christian programming
• Making extracurricular activities more accessible to families

Sheldon is one of our students at PVO who is in Foods. This was his second time making bannock and I think he’s a natural born bannock maker! Way to go, Sheldon! Your bannock making skills are superb!

Today at Prairie View Outreach, we had the honour of spending time with Elder Doreen Willier as she shared her experiences of residential school with our students and staff.

We are incredibly grateful to Doreen for being so open, honest, and willing to share her story with us. Hearing directly from someone who lived through these experiences gives our students an opportunity to listen, learn, and develop a deeper understanding of the impacts residential school had, and continues to have, on individuals, families, and communities.

At PVO, we believe in creating space for our students to hear Indigenous voices, ask questions, build understanding, and learn from the knowledge and experiences shared with us. These conversations are important, and they are part of the work of honouring stories, building relationships, and moving forward together.

Thank you, Doreen, for trusting us with your story and for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and strength with our PVO family. We are truly grateful for the time you spent with us today. 🧡

Our Foods students had a wonderful opportunity to visit Katie’s farm and get a little hands-on experience with where some of our food comes from!

The students picked beets, potatoes, and carrots that we’ll be putting to good use in our Foods program. 🥔🥕🌱

There’s something pretty special about harvesting your own food and then bringing it back to the kitchen to create something delicious!

We also had the chance to visit Katie’s chickens, goats, and pigs, and of course, we couldn’t forget about Indy and Bella! 🐶❤️

A huge thank you to Katie for opening up her farm to our students and giving them the opportunity to learn, explore, and connect with the land. Experiences like this make learning meaningful and our students had a great time! 💚

From the farm to our kitchen, we’re growing more than just food; we’re growing experiences, skills, and connections.

Today, Karma brought a little piece of home to PVO by bringing in a family recipe and putting it to work in our kitchen! ❤️

She made cinnamon buns and fresh buns, and she absolutely knocked it out of the park! They were delicious! 👏🏼🤎

It’s pretty amazing to see how much our students are growing in the kitchen. They are gaining confidence, learning new skills, sharing recipes and traditions, and creating delicious food on a regular basis.

Our Foods program has become such a special part of our school community and today was another great example of students taking what they know and turning it into something everyone could enjoy.

Way to go, Karma! You did an amazing job!🥰🍞✨
