A little behind-the-scenes from a big week at AMT! 🏊🔥🖥️⚓

For the first time, our BWR students are doing their Marine Emergency Duties training right here in Hay River, and we’re pretty proud of this milestone. 💙

A lot of people helped make this happen. Next week, we’ll share more photos, more of the story, and a well-deserved thank you to the partners who helped bring this training to the North.

⚓ Some familiar faces making us proud!

This Canadian Coast Guard video features several Arctic Marine Training and Nunavut Fisheries & Marine Training Consortium graduates and highlights the Indigenous Participation and Training Program. We love seeing our grads putting their skills to work and building careers on the water! 👏 It’s also great to see AMT and NFMTC recognized for helping make these opportunities possible.

We see the effort our students put into their training, so watching them take that next step means a lot. Their success shows what’s possible when Northern talent has access to training, support, and opportunities. When we talk about investing in the Arctic, this is part of what that looks like. Investing in Northern people builds stronger communities, safer waters, and a workforce that knows the North and calls it home.

A great few days for AMT at Imagine Marine in Ottawa! ⚓️🌊

Our Executive Director, John Vandenberg, took the stage for a national conversation on building a resilient marine workforce and the investment needed to support Canada’s marine industry's future.

We are incredibly proud of what AMT has built in the North. We are creating training opportunities closer to home, connecting Northerners with industry and helping build the workforce Canada’s marine sector needs.

It was also great to have AMT Board members Stéphanie Aubourg of CSL and Erick Bergeron of Desgagnés with us. Strong industry relationships have been a big part of AMT’s success and will be even more important as we grow.

A lot of investment is coming to the Arctic. We want to make sure we invest in Northern people and build training capacity alongside it. AMT has proven success, showing what is possible when we work together. Now it’s time to build on it. ⚓️

We were pleased to welcome the Master Corporal of the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group back to AMT today! 🇨🇦⚓

This afternoon, students heard him share his knowledge and experience and speak about the important role the Canadian Rangers play throughout Northern communities.

Visits like this connect classroom learning with real Northern experience and help students understand how leadership, preparedness, resilience, and community service support operations across the Arctic.

The R/V Sakku is on its way to Canada!

After undergoing upgrades in Amsterdam, Arctic Research Foundation’s newest vessel has officially departed and is making its way across the Atlantic.

We can’t wait to welcome the R/V Sakku home and see this incredible vessel begin supporting Canadian research, exploration and community projects across the Arctic!

Meet AMT’s newest Bridge Watch Rating class. 🌊

This photo was taken in our lobby during their first week, when students who started as strangers were already starting to feel like a class.

There is a lot ahead of them: long days of learning, practical training, new experiences and important connections with people across the marine industry. For now, they are getting settled, learning the ropes and taking it one day at a time.

We’d like to shoutout Moon Time Connections (Moon Time Connections ) for their incredible donation to AMT’s training centre! ❤️

Moon Time Connections (MTC) is “a national Indigenous-led period equity group” that works under True North Aid. Their mission is to provide Indigenous menstruators equitable access to menstrual products, and uplifting vital menstrual education where needed. Due to the overabundance we received, we decided to disperse excess products to local organizations where possible. We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to provide northerners access to these materials where possible. 🙂

We would additionally like to highlight the incredible work that True North Aid (True North Aid ) has been providing to wildfire evacuees across Canada through this challenging year.
