Good morning Hay Lakes parents and guardians!

Welcome to May! With only two months of school to go, we have lots of upcoming events. Please make sure that you are checking out the calendar on our school website to keep up to date with what is happening at the school.

Here are some things that are happening this week:

Wednesday, May 3rd

During the day, students in Gr. 9, 10 and some from 11 will be attending the Skills Canada Expo in Edmonton to see different students from around the province competing in the Skills Canada event, and get to try their own hand at some of the trades on display.

Hat's On for Mental Health - all week students are observing Mental Health week, and all students are encouraged to wear their favorite and wackiest hat tomorrow!

During the evening, we will be hosting parent-teacher interviews. If you haven't booked a time with your teacher, you can do so here.

Thursday, May 4th

Early dismissal day. The school day will end at 2:20 for all students.

We will be hosting Elder Brad Rabbit at our school for the day. He will meet with our elementary students in the morning, and then meet with all of our First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in the afternoon. All families are welcome to attend.

Friday, May 5th

Skyway hot lunch

Upcoming next week:

Grade 9 students will be learning more about our course offerings for students on May 9th with Mr. MacKenzie and our Career Counsellor, Carla Praticante. During the evening of May 11th, grade 9 parents are invited to the school at 6:30 pm to learn more from Mr. MacKenzie, and have any questions about high school programming answered.

Hello Hay Lakes families!
We've got a few events coming up over the next week or so that of which we wanted to make you aware.

Tomorrow, our Senior Girls will be heading to Consort to compete in their Zone playoffs. We are encouraging all students to wear school colors (black and orange) to show their support for our team!

Next Tuesday, March 14th, our Gr. 12 class is hosting a Cake Walk at lunchtime to fundraise for their celebration at the end of the year. Much like musical chairs, students can pay $1 to enter a round to try and win a cake. Students can enter into more than one round, so bring some pocket change and test your luck to win a cake.

Next Friday is March 17th, Saint Patrick's day! Students are encouraged to wear green on that day! And to wind up our Battle of the Books, on the 24th students are encouraged to wear their pjs to school!

On the hot lunch front, tomorrow is hot dog day! Next Wednesday is Perogies and Kolbassa from Let's Eat Catering, the deadline to order is Sunday at midnight. And on March 24th, we will be having another Panago Pizza Day. The last day to order will be March 21st at midnight.

Hello parents and guardians,
Our wonderful hot lunch volunteers have added more hot lunch days for the remainder of the year! Next week, on Wednesday, January 25th we will have a hamburger day. Parents can order a hamburger or cheeseburger for their child, and it will be prepared by Let's Eat Catering from New Sarepta. Parents have until midnight on Sunday of this week to order. We are continuing with hot dogs and pizza on various Fridays, and we will be adding one day a month when we will order from Skyway in Camrose.

To order for these hot lunch days, please check out the student fee payment page. Some of these hot lunches won't appear on the system until next week. We've added the calendar of all the dates to the school website and will be updating our public Google Calendar with them as well.

As you may know, the annual Pink Shirt Day will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd. Our school clothing supplier, Lil Buckaroo Design, has offered to do one bulk order for any parents that are interested through our payment system. We will have that purchase option up and ready to go next week!

Finally, just a reminder that our Jr. High Basketball teams are cohosting a tournament this weekend with New Norway School. Come check out the action Friday as both our teams play games here, and on Saturday the boys will be in New Norway while the girls play here at Hay Lakes. Make sure to check the school website for the streaming link for the games that will be taking place here at our school. We will also post the link for the New Norway stream on Saturday!

Hello parents and guardians,

We have a very busy few days leading up to our Christmas holidays.

Ten Days of Giving
We have three days left to bring in food item donations. Thursday's theme is cleaning supplies, Friday's is coffee and tea items, and Monday's is any other items you might like to donate. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, you can do so through the online payment system until Saturday.

Christmas Theme Days
We have theme days planned up until the holidays. Thursday is Ugly Sweater Day, Friday is Christmas Sock Day and Monday is Formal Day.

Pizza Day this Friday
For those who have pre-ordered, this Friday is our first pizza day. We will not have hotdogs on that day. Our next hotdog day will be January 6th.

Milk Days
We have been experiencing issues with our supplier for milk. We were unable to get a delivery this week, so there will be no milk before the holidays. We will be looking for a new supplier in the new year which will allow us to provide milk on a more consistent basis. We thank you for your patience.

Grad Class Bake Sale
Our Grad class is hosting a fundraising bake sale tomorrow and Friday during lunch hour. The items range in price from $0.50 to $2.00.

Christmas Concert
Our Christmas Concert is planned for Monday, December 19th. We will be having two performances this year, one in the afternoon at 2pm, and in the evening at 7pm.

Hello parents and guardians,

As we communicated last week, the school will be closed tomorrow due to the water outage in the Village of Hay Lakes. When students return on Wednesday, the village will still be on a boil water order. This means that students will not be able to use the fountains or the taps. Water bottle filling stations and sanitizer will be made available to students for the duration of the boil order.

With there being no school tomorrow, we will be moving the theme days for our "10 Days of Giving" and our School Spirit Days. As well, for our 10 Days of Giving, we have also made it possible for parents to make a monetary donation through our School Fee system if they'd like.

Here is the schedule for the rest of this week.

Wednesday - 10 Days of Giving theme is Canned Fruit and Vegetables, as well as Canned Pasta Sauce. The theme days are Christmas Hat/Hair Day, and Plaid/Flannel Day.

Thursday - Cleaning Supplies for the 10 Days of Giving and Ugly Sweater Day for the theme day.

Friday - Coffee/Tea Day for the 10 Days of Giving and Christmas Sock Day for the theme day.

Happy Friday!
We are very excited to announce the return of our hot lunch and milk program!
Starting next Tuesday, students with a milk card will be able to get milk with their lunches. A milk card will cost $12.50 for 10 cartons of milk. There is no difference in price for chocolate or white milk. If a student has a milk card, they will let their teacher know in the morning that they would like milk with their lunch and it will be delivered to them.
On Friday, December 2nd, members of our School Council will be hosting the first hot dog Friday of the year! A hot dog card will also cost $12.50 for 10 hot dogs. The process for ordering hot dogs will be the same, teachers will take the orders in the morning and they will be delivered at lunch time.
On Friday, December 16th, our School Council has organized a pizza Hot Lunch from Panago. The cut-off to order for this hot lunch is midnight on December 7th.
For all of these items, to order, parents need to go to their online fee payment account (here's the link for you!) and select and pay for what they would like to order. The office will then let teachers know that students have a milk or hot dog card, and the hot lunch on the 16th with be delivered directly to them.
Also next week, we will be sending out letters to parents with a summary of their outstanding fees for the school year. Those fees can be paid using the same link as the one used for hot lunches.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to the school for help.
