As much as we love our straight feral mornings, our afternoons are often spent doing some kind of structured learning, even if it’s in spurts of a few minutes at a time.

The past couple weeks we have been getting a few min of learning in every day about BUGS. We often find so many different creatures in the swamp and woods, that it seemed fitting. The best part about homeschooling/home daycares, is the learning can be tailored to what the kiddies are interested in.

The snake and frog catchers are on the loose again! A bunch of northern leopards found, a couple toads, and one snake spotted but unfortunately our in house snake man missed it today! lol

One of my favourite reasons I love forest play is portrayed in the last picture here: RISKY PLAY.

We as parents and caregivers need to allow our children to feel confident in their bodies. It’s scary 100%, watching them do something you know they could get hurt doing. But it’s so important. They learn what they can and can’t do, feel confident in their own capabilities. It helps our children become expert problem solvers; how do I get off this slippery log without falling down.. and sometimes they do, but maybe next time they try a different way down. And something I love seeing… these tiny humans working as a team. Hey you are stuck, let me give you a boost, comforting each other when they are hurt, or encouring each other when they accomplish something amazing.

Next time your babe is climbing the rock wall, take a breath, be close for support, but allow them to work at it, get frustrated, fail and try again. Let’s raise expert problem solvers. 🌲

No rather way I’d like to spend my days than knee deep in mud, catching frogs. 🐸

So many reasons I love Havelock, but this is one of the biggies. We feel so grateful to have a community that supports outdoor exploration with accessible trails!
Not a lot of other places can you walk down and enjoy a cookie at the bakery then go exploring the beautiful trails 🌲
