Huge Tourmaline Crystals—Would You Bring This Home?

Out crystal hunting again, and we brought home this beautiful chunk of pegmatite! It’s loaded with black tourmaline in potassium feldspar, with some crystals about a foot long. Look closer and there are smaller, beautifully formed crystals tucked in there too.

This was a heavy one to bring home! Would you have carried it out? 🪨

Sometimes prospecting gives you a bonus—the scenery along the way! 🌲

These pictures are from a two-hour walk down Terra Nova River North, where we prospected for five years. We went looking for what was in the rocks, but with scenery like this, you have to stop and take it all in.

One of the things we love about prospecting is the places it takes us. ❤️

This Beach Rock Caught Our Eye! 🪨

Found this unusual rock on a beach near Glovertown, Newfoundland. Look at those bands and raised brown areas! Could it be sedimentary rock with a concretion? That’s just a guess—what do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Art and Terry recovered these sapphires directly from an outcrop in Labrador. They may look dark in ordinary light—but under ultraviolet light, some glow an incredible red!
