Honouring the life and legacy of Dr. Juliet Daniel.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our faculty advisor, mentor, and unwavering supporter. Dr. Daniel was more than a leader, she was a guiding force who believed in us and ensured that Black students felt seen, supported, and capable. Her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her impact will continue to shape our community for generations to come.
She was a constant source of encouragement, someone who believed in the potential of every student she encountered. From the earliest years of our organization, her support was steady and intentional, reminding us that we belong in every space we step into.
Her impact extended far beyond BAP-MAC.
Through her work in science, mentorship, and advocacy, she challenged systems, created opportunities, and helped build a more inclusive community at McMaster University.
Dr. Daniel was a Distinguished University Professor, internationally recognized for her research in cancer biology. She used her platform to champion equity in academia, emphasizing that excellence and inclusion must go hand in hand.
Beyond research, she co-founded ACFAM and helped lead transformative initiatives like the Black Excellence Cohort Hire and the Black Student Success Centre, advancing representation and community at McMaster.
She carried her success in a way that made others feel capable of their own.
Her legacy lives on through the students she mentored, the communities she built, and the barriers she worked tirelessly to break.
We are grateful for her. She will be deeply missed.
