We are the current and future students of Sherwood Secondary School, thr almuni, parents, teachers, neighbours, and businesses. Previously on "Save Sherwood Secondary" ...In February of 2011 it was recommended by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board that Sherwood Secondary School be closed in 2013, along with Mountain Secondary School. This means that students in the area may end up attending three different schools throughout their high school career. The members of this group demand a better solution than this. The HWDSB makes this suggestion in response to a projected drop in capacity for mountain schools over the next decade. Currently at 71% capacity, they are expected to drop to 55%. We object to making such hasty decisions over short-term projections. The last thing we would like to see is our schools demolished and our students suddenly left high and dry in the long term, in the potential event of a future spike in enrollment. Even in the short term, We don't want to see our highschoolers shuffled around and lumped into larger classrooms. These structures are also considered part of our local history, Sherwood being built in the year of Canada's centennial. Not to mention the numerous works of art found inside these schools that should be salvaged and preserved at the very least. Please help spread the word. Update: We saved Sherwood! (May 2012)
