PLANS - Promoting Leadership in health for African Nova Scotians

We are looking to improve health outcomes within the African Nova Scotian community encompassing all people of African descent living in Nova Scotia. We aim to address the under-representation of people of African descent in the health professions through:
- recruitment activities, such as our summer camp for youth,
- advocate, facilitate and support programs and policies that support student success
- engage with the community and facilitate partnerships

Our co-op session students spent the last two weeks exploring a variety of health and medical fields through engaging, hands on experiences.

We started off with a visit to the Nursing department, where students learned about the profession, training pathways, and what a career in nursing can look like. This session was so fun they even got to make fake bruises!

Students also participated in the Medical Students Seminar, gaining insight into the journey to medical school and life as a medical student.

Later the students met with the School of Health and Human Performance and the Department of Pharmacology to learn about different academic programs, research opportunities, and career pathways within health sciences.

A big thank you to our incredible facilitators for welcoming our students and making these sessions informative and inspiring. 🥹🫶🏾
