It had been a hot minute since one of our students had completed the decanomial square aka Square of Pythagoras.

What is that work ?

It is part of the sensorial work in a Montessori classroom, the child builds a square by discriminating shape, size and colour. But indirectly, we prepare for maths and the squaring of a number.

Metal inset : a lesson many children are attracted to from a young age but can't access for a while, until their hand and fingers are ready.

An amazing work of concentration, hand strength/fine motor and a precursor to writing.

I will never get tired of the focus face, concentration face, it can look like a frown, or eyes wide open, a slight smile or a pout... it is concentration.
If we don't assume and take the time to observe, we realize how amazing these faces tell us about the learning child hard at work.
