FYI: 🗓️
Deutsche Stunde will take place again this Saturday, June 13.
The Millstone Public House, Kings Wharf, has been renamed as Pi, with a new menu. They seem to be specializing a bit more in pizza now, but there are lots of other options. They have assured me that they will still have gluten-free options (although there is never a guarantee in an open kitchen). We will try it this time.
I would like to start asking people to let me know by noon on the day of our Stammtisch if you plan to attend (either via Facebook or WhatsApp) so I can make a reservation. That will make things easier at the restaurant/pub and allow me to decide whether to proceed with the gathering for the month, especially during the summer when people may be otherwise occupied.
Any time when I don’t have at least three or four people who confirm by noon on that day, Deutsche Stunde will be postponed until the following month.

🚨End of Year Party on May 31st with this AMAZING group of students !
Dear GHLS students, parents and friends,
It’s hard to believe that our 2025-26 school year has already finished.
We hope you all enjoyed the year and that you were able to learn lots of German and experience German culture with us.
We warmly invite you to celebrate that at our End of Year Party!
🗓️ It will take place on Sunday, May 31, from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Community Hall of Christ Church, 61 Dundas Street in Dartmouth.
☕️This year’s theme is a cake picnic inspired by the German tradition of “Kaffee und Kuchen.” We encourage everyone to bring a cake or another baked treat to share. It will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy delicious sweets and great company.
In addition to the picnic, we’ll have fun games and creative activities for everyone to enjoy.
Please RSVP by May 24, by replying to Arne at [email protected]
We look forward to celebrating with you! 😀

On April 23rd, we’re holding a ‘Mystery Book Sale’ as a fundraiser for the GHLS library.
Blind date with a book!
We will be selling gently-used books wrapped in brown paper on which we have written some clues about the author and/or the story or topic, if it’s a bestseller or from a bestselling author etc.
There will be mostly adult novels in English and German, but also biographies, some crime, travel guides, and children’s books.
Join the fun and find a new favourite reading!
Please bring cash and help us raise funds for the GHLS library! 📚

Dear School Community,
Good news. Our search for a new principal has officially closed and we are happy to announce that Corinna Niekamp has accepted the position.
Corinna is very familiar with our school as a parent, former teacher and board member. Her commitment to and experience with our school will make this transition as seamless as possible.
We look forward to working with Corinna as the new principal and are excited about the future of our school.
Also, please note that we always welcome new faces on our committees and on our Board of Directors and hope to hear from you if you are interested in joining us.

Open house on Thursday the 26th, 4:30-6:30.
Dear School Community,
Our German Heritage Language School (GHLS) is a volunteer-run organization and relies on member participation to continue functioning and thriving in the years to come. We currently have two vacancies on the Board, as several long-standing members are stepping down this spring after their children have graduated.
We encourage you to show your support for GHLS by attending our information session to learn more about how you can get involved and help ensure the continued success of our organization.
Thank you and we hope to see you there! 😀
