The Fine Arts Parents Association (FAPA) exists solely for the purpose of advocacy and support for Halifax's All-City Music Program. Our parent volunteers give generously of their time, energy and resources. Halifax All-City Music provides free weekly programming to students Grades 4-12 in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Through Halifax All-City Music students have the opportunity to participat
e in strings instruction (starting in Grade 4), various choral groups, string ensembles, jazz bands and symphony orchestra. Our programs serve upwards of 1800 students a year and are dependent on the exceptional standard of instruction provided by the music teachers who head each program. Many of our graduates go on to pursue fields of study and/or careers related to music, and most develop a life-long passion for keeping music in their lives. Every student benefits from this collaborative, creative experience. To have such high caliber programming as a cultural underpinning of the Halifax community is truly unique. That this programming is available without financial barriers through a network of public schools is a rare and remarkable achievement which must be preserved. FAPA’s largest annual fundraiser, “Winterlude”, is a gala event showcasing some of these extraordinary musical groups. Winterlude takes place on the last Saturday of February in the McInnes Room at Dalhousie University.
