Ghost: "A supposed apparition of the dead." Apparition: "The supposed appearance of an animal, person or object too far away to be seen, felt or heard by normal senses." Spirit: "A supernatural force of nature, discarnate entity or the animating essence in our physical bodies; sometimes referred to as soul but not precisely the same as the soul." These definitions attempt to define what a ghost or spirit is. To some, a ghost or earthbound-spirit hasn't been elevated to a higher level or the Light after they die. To some, a spirit is a ghost that has elevated to a Light and returns to loved ones. We have no idea what happens to us after we die. We can only assume or imagine. However, we have rich imaginations. We have never met anyone who has told us if there is life after death or what happens to us. Some people say it is good to help ghosts cross over to the Light. Some say to let ghosts be where they are if they are ok and not harming anyone. The argument goes both ways. But perhaps on this page, we can imagine or find a collective agreement on what ghosts are and enjoy some paranormal fun.

✨ Lammas Bread 🍞

In old Gaelic traditions, Lammas was deeply tied to the Bannock (or Bonnach Lunastain). This wasn't just any bread, it was a sacred flatbread made from the very first grains harvested from the fields. To bring good luck and protection to the household, the bread was coated in a rich glaze of whipped eggs, fresh milk and butter before being baked on a hot stone or griddle over an open fire.🔥

Lammas Bannock Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

• 2 cups barley flower or oat flour ( or a mix of regular and oat flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 2 tbsp melted butter (or bacon fat for an authentic savory twist!)
• 2/3 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
• For the traditional glaze: 1 egg beaten with a splash of milk and melted butter.

How to:

1. Whisk the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Stir in the melted butter and buttermilk until a soft dough forms.

2. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a round disc, about half inch thick. Cut a cross shape into the top to divide it into four quarters (traditionally representing the seasons).

3. Brush your beaten egg, milk and butter mixture generously over the top.

4. Heat a heavy cast iron skillet or griddle over medium low heat. Grease it lightly, then cook the Bannock for about 5 to 8 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

Serve it warm with fresh butter and local honey to honor the sweetness of the harvest.🍯
