$10/day childcare what you don't know....
Below is the reality.....
As many may have heard the government is offering parents a refund on child care fees of 25%, which is between $25.00 and $128.75 per month for my center. Once we receive the funds we will pass it along to the families. On another note, Yesterday private centre owners/directors attended a zoom meeting with the department. The department is trying to get private centres to join their Canada National Child Care Program (also know as 10 per day child care). What many do not know is that in order for us to join in we will be forced to choose one of four options, each option basically puts us as employees of the department and takes away our business, we will be forced to hand over our business and the department will take over all administration of the centres. Owners and directors will work on the floor directly with the children in order to keep their job, but have not been given a job description or a salary scale. ECE Staff will be given a new salary scale as well however, we don't have that information either. Option 2 is to hand over administration to the department and transition to a non profit centre. Option 3 is to hand over administration to the department and go under an existing non profit centre. Option 4 is to stay the same keep your business however you lose funding (that helps pay staff salaries) and parents lose subsidy (which would put us out of business).
So I am very upset to lose my business that we worked so hard to create. In the near future I will be drafting a letter for parents to sign to help us stay in business, not sure if it will work or not but we have to fight for our centre, and I hope you will join in to fight with us.
