Live Webinar: Pharmacokinetics to improve drug therapy in understudied populations

Friday, November 21, 2025

Presented by Dr. Cindy Yeung

Each year, 60 in 15,000 newborns at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Canada experience adverse drug reactions due to off-label use (the drugs are not approved in neonates). The heavy impact of off-label drugs on neonates is not surprising since 90% of NICU drugs are used off-label in Canada. As another striking statistic, 22,100 mothers (10%) annually in Canada discontinue their drug therapy or breastfeeding due to uncertainty about how their medications might affect their infant. Similar to newborns, there is sparse labelling during lactation.

Dr. Yeung's expertise in two model types, population PK (popPK) and physiologically based PK (PBPK) modeling, will help predict precise doses for neonates at the NICU and estimate maternal chemical exposures to breastfeeding infants. In this webinar, Dr. Yeung will be discussing how she plans to leverage these two modeling techniques in relation to cardiovascular health, environmental toxicology, and precision dosing.

This webinar is accredited for 1 CEU.
