Meet Rae, another one of our concurrent session presenters!
Here’s a few words from Rae:
“Take charge”, “create change”, “speak up”. Students are always being encouraged to act as leaders but are rarely cautioned to think critically about the roles they take on and the negative impacts that their actions can have. I’m elated to be presenting at my first ECSLC on mindful and appropriate leadership in the 21st century. It is my aim that following my session participants are able to critically asses their own leadership roles past, present and future within a framework of their own intersectional identities.
All the best,
Rae J.

Sometimes, it can cause us pain to help others. It can be difficult to handle some of the things that being a leader can throw at us, but we’re just supposed to take it in stride right? I am excited to share about my experience as a leader and to have a conversation about recognizing that as leaders we are not invincible. I want to help you learn strategies for when being a leader hurts.

Hannah and Sara are 3rd year students at Dalhousie University studying Neuroscience and Medical Sciences. United by a desire to improve university life for all students, they created the Dalhousie Accessibility Society in the spring of 2018. The society aims to advocate for Dalhousie students with disabilities, improve accessibility services on campus and foster better understanding of accessibility at Dalhousie. They want to help educate people on accessibility issues and show them how they can be part of the solution.
Here’s a little bit about their presentation:
In 2017, Nova Scotia set the goal to become an accessible province by 2030. With 12 years left to meet this goal, how far have things come? Join us for a presentation about the state of accessibility at Dalhousie and around Nova Scotia, Canada and the world. We will discuss why accessibility issues should concern everyone, dismantle some of the misconceptions around disability and explain what you can do to make your campus a more inclusive and accessible space.
