We are honoured to welcome Dr. Hamilton-Hinch, a proud African Nova Scotian from the communities of Beechville and Cherry Brook. She is a trailblazer in education and leadership—celebrated as the first African Nova Scotian to earn a PhD from Dalhousie University.

Dr. Hamilton-Hinch is a Full Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance and serves as Assistant Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Dalhousie University. She is also a co-founder of the Imhotep’s Legacy Academy and Promoting Leadership in Health for African Nova Scotians (PLANS).

Please join us for a guided practice, lead by Dr. Hamilton-Hinch, which will provide an opportunity for students to reflect, connect, and unwind!

📣 Research Update
Belonging & Success in Nursing Study

Ongoing experiences of discrimination and anti-Black racism in nursing education have real consequences — not only for Black students, but for Black health outcomes, care quality, and representation in the health-care system.

This exploratory mixed-methods study examines the academic, clinical, and life experiences of Black nursing students in Nova Scotia, aiming to identify the factors that impact their sense of belonging and success in nursing.

👩🏾‍⚕️ Our 19 participants represent:
🏫 4 nursing schools across the province
🌍 multiple ethnic backgrounds
🎓 3 levels of training — from practical nursing students to advanced practice nurses

We are excited to share the results of this study in the coming months!
