Since 2013, Grammar students have taken part in Ronald McDonald House’s Home for Dinner program, planning, shopping for and preparing meals for families staying at RMH.

Along the way, students build practical skills in the kitchen, healthy meal planning and budgeting—all while contributing their time to support families in our community.

We’re grateful to the Gordon Stirrett Wealth Management Community Service Grant for helping make this long-standing program possible for our students.

This week, Grammar was proud to host the annual CAIS Summer Leadership Institute, welcoming educators from independent schools across the country.

As a member of Canadian Accredited Independent Schools, Grammar is part of a national network of schools committed to high standards, continuous growth, and leadership in education.

A special congratulations to our Head of Prep School, Stefanie Cox, who graduated from the institute last night, and thank you to our Director of Human Resources, Marlee Naipaul, for sharing her expertise as one of this year’s presenters.

2025–26 really took us places. 📍

From conferences in Calgary to competitions in Québec, from universities down the street to Central Europe, Grammar students found opportunities to learn, connect, and represent our school community beyond the classroom.

We are proud to celebrate Audrey, whose dedication to badminton has led to provincial recognition, national success, and another opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage.

A Grade 10 student at Grammar, Audrey recently earned silver medals in both U17 Mixed Doubles and U17 Girls’ Doubles at the 2026 Canadian Junior National Championships in Winnipeg.

She was also featured in Sport Nova Scotia’s Asian Heritage Month newsletter and recognized at the recent Sport Nova Scotia awards celebration as a recipient of the Junior Female Athlete of the Year award, as well as Junior Female Badminton Player of the Year.

Most recently, Audrey competed at the Atlantic Championships in Moncton, bringing home two more gold medals.

This summer, Audrey will once again represent Canada as a member of the Canadian Junior National Team at the Pan Am Junior Championships in JoĂŁo Pessoa, Brazil.

We are so proud of Audrey’s dedication, discipline, and success, and we’ll be cheering her on this July.

Halifax Grammar School is saddened to share the news of the passing of John Messenger, former Headmaster of Grammar from 1995 to 2005.

Mr. Messenger’s leadership helped shape Grammar into the school it is today, and his impact continues to be felt across our community. He will be remembered with deep gratitude by generations of students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni.

We invite anyone with memories or stories of Mr. Messenger to share them with us in the comments or by direct message.

A celebration of life will be held at Grammar on July 25. Further details will follow.

Our thoughts are with the Messenger family, including Mr. Messenger’s daughter and current Grammar teacher, Jane Messenger.
