I’ve already failed. There’s no combination of words that can do justice to my friend, Junior.

So I guess you’ll have to settle for just a glimpse into the incredible human he was.

In honour of his too-short time in this world, here are 30 lessons from Junior that everyone can carry forward.

SELF-LEADERSHIP

1. Thrive in peace, not in pieces.
2. Stick to the plan; not your mood.
3. Learn the language of emotions.
4. No one can give you the love you deserve but you.
5. Happiness requires selfishness. It’s ok and important to put yourself first.
6. Normalize saying “I love you” to yourself and others.
7. Measure progress by your growth, not just results.
8. Don’t confuse fun with happiness.
9. Check in with yourself often: What do you stand for? What do you value? What are you ready to release?
10. Mindset is everything. Visualize your best day, every day.
11. Joy is fleeting. Happiness is a state of mind.
12. You are not your mistakes.

PURPOSE, FAITH & MEANING

13. If it helps one person, it was worth it.
14. Everyone should read The Alchemist (more than once).
15. Life is wildly precious. Every sunrise is a gift.
16. Dream big - ridiculously big. If people aren’t doubting you, it’s not big enough.
17. God put you here for a reason. Show up for it.
18. Don’t just walk through life. Dance through it (listen to Bam Bam by Camilla Cabelo).

WORK & CONTRIBUTION

19. There’s no fruit without labour.
20. Use social media as a tool - not an identity.
21. Start before you’re ready. Don’t wait for the perfect time or the perfect resources.
22. Give more than you take. Value freely given comes back tenfold.
23. Work can sustain you, but it’s not the reason you thrive.
24. Strive for excellence in everything.
25. You only fail when you give up.
26. Knowledge without follow-through means nothing.

FRIENDSHIP, LOVE & PRESENCE

27. Never underestimate the power of a heartfelt note for no reason.
28. Vulnerability is the path to intimacy.
29. Honesty over convenience, always.
30. Friendship isn’t about always being there; it’s about being fully there when you are.
