Save the date! The Teaching to Diversity Conference is taking place in Halifax on April 28 and 29, 2027.

Designed for professionals who support individuals with diverse learning needs, the conference will share practical ideas and strategies to help strengthen learning, independence, participation and success. Topics will include supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals, learners who are blind or have low vision, learners who are Deaf or hard of hearing, and others who may experience barriers to learning and participation.

Congratulations to Lesley Anthony on being awarded the 2026 Council of the Federation Literacy Awards by the province of New Brunswick. Lesley recently retired from APSEA, but during her 25 years as part of the team she made a significant impact improving literacy access for students who are blind or have low vision. Congratulations to Nicole Poirier and Lesley Anthony, recipients of the Council of the Federation's 2026 Literacy Award for their dedication to learners of all ages.

Nicole is a Learning Support Teacher at Abbey-Landry School in Memramcook. A published children's author, she works closely with families and community partners to foster a lasting love of reading and writing, and to promote the French language across the province.

Since 2001, Lesley has been transforming literacy access for students who are blind or have low vision. As part of Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) in Woodstock, she has championed braille instruction, assistive technology, and virtual initiatives that connect learners across Atlantic Canada.

Every New Brunswicker deserves the chance to build strong literacy skills, and it takes dedicated educators to make that possible. Thank you to Nicole, Lesley, and everyone across our province who shares their commitment to advancing literacy.

Navigating benefits and credits can feel complicated, especially when you’re not sure what your family may be eligible for.

Join APSEA on October 21 for a virtual information session with representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency and Employment and Social Development Canada to learn more about benefits available to persons with disabilities and their families.

APSEA learners and their families are invited to join us for Autumn Connections, a fun day to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new friends and enjoy time together. This takes place on Saturday, October 3rd at the Lake Echo Community Recreation Centre at 10:30 am.

The day will include activities led by APSEA staff, lunch, games and prizes, with lots of opportunities for the whole family to connect and have fun. Registration by September 22.

Come together for a fun and engaging ASL Storytime at the James McConnell Memorial Library on September 19. It’s a great opportunity to connect, learn and enjoy stories together in an ASL-friendly environment.

Congratulations to Paul Wilkins who retired from his role as Maintenance Supervisor with APSEA at the end of April 2026. Throughout his 18 years at APSEA, Paul kept our spaces safe and well cared for. We thank Paul for his many years of service and wish him all the best in retirement!
