“A business degree should prepare students not just for their first job, but for a lifetime of leadership, adaptability and meaningful work,” said Sobey School Associate Dean, Undergraduate and Professional Graduate Programs Dr Vurain Tabvuma.
Students will be able to complete up to three work terms for credit, earning up to nine credits that count toward their degree’s elective requirements.

Sobey School professors John Fiset and Búi Petersen were recently recognized by the Academy of Management Learning & Education. Their paper, DO BUSINESS SCHOOLS WALK THE TALK? Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Boland, recipient of the 2026 Father William A. Stewart, S.J. Medal for Excellence in Teaching! 👏🎓
An Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting at the Sobey School of Business - SMU, Dr. Boland has been recognized for his dedication to student success, innovation in the classroom, and commitment to experiential learning.
His impacts extends far beyond campus through the development of free financial tools for the maritime beekeeping industry and a public-facing research column in the Halifax Examiner. An active researcher in empirical accounting and finance, he is also a dedicated volunteer in youth sport.
Established in 1983, the Father William A. Stewart, S.J. Medal for Excellence in Teaching recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and service while continuing Father Stewart's legacy of accessible, innovative, and student-focused education.
