I couldn’t be any more excited for and proud of this amazing human as tomorrow they audition for MT program. I’ve been working with since they were 12/13 and from day 1 I knew they were a total superstar. To a see a student pursue their dream and walk alongside them as they shape their craft, build their instrument and grow their confidence to blossom into an artist and human who will certainly make the future MT industry more dazzling, socially just and dynamic is such a gift!
Have fun tomorrow and know I’m there with you in spirit!

My heart is heavy in learning of the passing of Mabel Doak. She was my second ever voice teacher and made a profound impact on my life.
She taught me so much about singing: phrasing, tonality and mix “off the tip of your nose, Patrick” she’d say.
We’d gossip and laugh and sing and laugh some more. I believe we both brought light into one another’s lives.
After graduating and moving to NYC, she would email me weekly with updates. I remember going downstairs to the 2-computer computer lounge in the basement of AMDA to keep her abreast of my life.
Mabel always had my back and full support. She would graciously send detailed and personal letters of reference for job applications, would go to bat for me and would counsel and advise, especially as I started teaching.
Every time I’d come home to Fredericton we would meet up and share a combo #1 from the Dip and catch up (gossip and laugh some more)

I have so much gratitude for all she taught me over the years: about singing, about music, about teaching, about life.

Today, when I teach my students, she is so present. I feel blessed to have had Mabel in my life.

I will forever think of Mabel when I sing / hear “On the Street Where You Live” ❤️
