Cecilia Concerts • Sensory-Friendly Chamber Music Concerts
Music is essential to feeling and being human – everybody needs music. It builds community and contributes to a sense of health and well-being. However, the way live music concerts are traditionally offered means they are not always accessible to everyone. This series of sensory-friendly classical...

Congratulations to one of my very first student's Lucas, for receiving the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival's Gary Farmer Award for Outstanding Jazz Piano Performance and placing First in his category! This was his first year participating in the Kiwanis Music Festival, and though it was a different one with COVID-19 happening, he adapted extremely well and quickly to the new set up resulting in an amazing performance! Well done Lucas!

Hi Everyone, my mother in law came up with a great idea that I thought may be helpful to those who are having a hard time not touching their faces out in public (or have kids who have this issue)! She used a long shoe lace that she pinned to the bottom of her sleeves on her jacket that she tied in a loop. When she is out for a walk or has to run a needed errand, she puts her hands through the loops and any time her hands lift toward her face, she has a gentle tug to reminder her to stop. The loop is pretty loose, but enough to remind you not to touch your face.

Lucas and I were featured on Your Morning on CTV this morning, after Esther tweeted a great video to them of our FaceTime lesson. Skip ahead to the 56 second mark if you want to just see that part, or enjoy the whole video! Thank you to Esther for passing this along! :) This is a great taste of how we can continue working with FaceTime Lessons!

I miss seeing all of my clients for in-person lessons and sessions right now and am looking forward to restarting our regular lessons and sessions once things settle down. I'm grateful for FaceTime lessons/sessions in the interim. In the mean time, I wrote this song as a reminder of appropriate actions to take regarding this pandemic (to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It").
Social Distancing Song
Quick reminder on best practices right now.

Virtual lessons have begun over FaceTime and Skype! Looking forward to getting back to in-person lessons, but I am so pleased to be able to offer this temporary alternative in the interim. Thank you Esther for this photo of Bryan’s lesson this morning!

A Quick Update:
As all of my current clients already know, as of this past Sunday, I made the difficult decision that in-person lessons and sessions will be postponed until further notice. In following the suggestions of health officials, it seems irresponsible for me to have so many people in and out of the studio space and waiting area each week. Lessons and sessions will be available via FaceTime or Skype during this time. I will also be emailing supplemental recordings, scans, and theory homework, when applicable. I am hopeful this will help to limit the disruption as much as possible. I look forward to seeing you all in person again soon. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
In Song,
Brittannie

Congratulations to one of my very first students, Lucas, on a major achievement! Today, he was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest mark on a Level 6 RCM piano exam, for all of Atlantic Canada. It was wonderful to see him receive such a prestigious award!
