General information

Founded in 1789, the University of King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university. It is known nationally and internationally for its interdisciplinary programmes in the humanities and journalism.

Rich with history, the university maintains many of its old academic traditions. Students and faculty dress in academic gowns for Formal Meal, student societies that were formed in the early 19th century are still thriving, a Matriculation reception is held each September in honour of entering students, and students are feted with an Encaenia ceremony each May.

These traditions, combined with the forward-thinking innovations of students and faculty, make for a tightly-knit and extraordinarily lively academic community.
