The children in the Cupcake Class enjoyed an activity with big pom poms, tweezers, and clothespins. The infants explored by pulling the clothespins off the pom poms and trying to pick up the pom poms with the tweezers. They changed the activity by throwing the pom poms and bringing them back to the table. The infants problem-solved by reaching for the pom poms and moving the table to get the pom poms that were far away.

September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation Day; a day to remember the children and families affected by residential schools and to show that Every Child Matters

Over the past several days, our classes have been learning together about the importance of this day. Through activities, books and conversations, we’ve been talking about kindness, caring for one another, and respecting all people.

We also acknowledge, with gratitude and respect, that Edward Jost Children’s Centres are located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. We are thankful to live, learn, and grow on this land.

Today the children in the Dragonfly class had fun exploring the force of air! Using an electric fan, colourful scarves, feathers and other objects, they experimented with how air could make different items move, float and fly. They tried items of different weights and dropped feathers from different heights to see how they would move through the air. The children watched closely, made observations and tested out their own ideas. There were lots of laughs as the fan sent their scarves flying and even blew their hair in funny directions! It was a fun and playful way to explore air, movement, weight and cause and effect.

The children in the Koala Classroom enjoyed a fun indoor play activity, washing their baby dolls! They practiced gentle care by giving their baby dolls a bath, washing, rinsing and drying them. It was a fun way to explore nurturing, pretend play and everyday routines while having fun together.

The children in the Jellyfish Class explored making vertical lines, circles, squares, triangles, and other shapes using popsicle sticks, paintbrushes, and choosing their own paints. Through activities like this, children can develop their own imagination, creativity, confidence, sensory awareness, emotional stability, and autonomy.

The children in Hedgehog Class, enjoyed exploring paint with different tools including rollers, hands and brushes. The children used their fine motor skills and worked on language(squishy, brown, yellow, touch).

Hello September! At Edward Jost Children’s Centre & Early Learning Centre, we value and promote early literacy. One way we do this is by participating in Scholastic’s Book Clubs. Throughout the school year, flyers will be handed out and posted here. Families can order books online using our class codes RC177619 (Mont Street) and RC263138 (Herring Cove Rd). The paper copies of the flyers should be available next week. Every order earns our centres rewards for our classrooms. Orders will be submitted by September 25th. We look forward to learning from and enjoying many new stories this year will have. Happy reading! 📖

Last week, the Penguin room decided to embrace the rain and turn a rainy day into an unforgettable adventure! Instead of letting the rain stop them, we grabbed their gear and headed outside for some good old- fashioned puddle jumping ☔️🥾

The kids had an absolute blast splashing, jumping, stomping, and exploring all the puddles they could find. There were lots of big smiles, plenty of giggles, and of course lots of very wet clothes 💦

It was fun watching the children experience the rain and enjoy the simple excitement that comes with puddle jumping! Sometimes the best memories are made when embracing the mess and jumping right in 🥰

The Penguin room definitely knows how to make the most of a rainy day 🐧🌧️

Happy Friday Everyone! Just a reminder that all centres will be closed on Monday September 7th for Labour Day. Have a great long weekend!
