🍁 Fall reflections

Fall has always been my favourite season. Maybe because it reminds me that change is part of growth.

The trees let go, the landscape transforms, and the river keeps moving—finding its way around every rock.

I think learning is much the same.

It isn’t always a straight path. Sometimes we slow down, try again, change direction, and find a new way forward.

As a teacher and tutor, I love being part of that journey—helping students discover how they learn, build confidence, and keep moving forward.

As I continue to grow my tutoring business, it’s important to me to keep learning, improving, and investing in my own professional development. I believe that what I learn can then be passed on to the tutors who join my team, so that we can continue to offer the best possible support to our students. 💛

I recently had the opportunity to participate in an Orton-Gillingham workshop, learning more about how we can better support dyslexic learners. Every new tool and strategy helps us make a difference—one learner at a time.

📚 Et si on rendait la révision de la lecture amusante? 🎲

Les vacances sont une belle occasion de garder les acquis en lecture… sans que ça ressemble à des devoirs!

J’aime beaucoup transformer la lecture en un moment de jeu et de partage avec les enfants. ❤️

🎲 Dans ce jeu, on choisit un livre que l’enfant a lu, on lance le dé et on avance sur le parcours. Selon la case, l’enfant doit parler de son histoire :

📖 Nommer un personnage
📖 Décrire quelque chose qui se passe dans l’histoire
📖 Dire ce que ressent un personnage
📖 Décrire un lieu
📖 Dire ce qu’il aime ou n’aime pas dans l’histoire

Le plus important? Les parents jouent aussi! 🤗

Lorsque l’adulte participe, l’enfant voit concrètement comment on parle d’un livre, comment on réfléchit à une histoire et comment on partage ses idées. Vous devenez ainsi un modèle de lecteur… tout en passant un bon moment ensemble. ❤️

Pas besoin d’un long exercice de lecture.
Pas besoin de fiches compliquées.
Un livre, un dé, quelques pions… et un peu de plaisir! 🎲📚

Back-to-School Confidence

Back when I was a principal, I used to go to school about a week before the first day to do bus orientation with children who were starting school and had never been on a school bus.

We would practise getting on and off, where to sit, how to behave on the bus, and what to expect.

I loved those mornings because I saw how something that seemed so simple to an adult could feel very big to a child. Knowing what to expect can make a new experience feel much less scary.

As parents, there are lots of little things we can do before school starts to help our children feel prepared:

✨ Practise the morning routine.
✨ Let them practise opening lunch containers, backpacks and water bottles.
✨ Talk about what their school day might look like.
✨ Walk or drive by the school before the first day if you can.
✨ Give them opportunities to practise doing things independently.
✨ Most importantly, talk about school with confidence and enthusiasm. Your calm can become their calm.

And remember: being prepared isn’t about making sure your child can do everything perfectly. It’s about helping them feel safe, capable and ready to try.

Ce sont ces petits détails qui font toute la différence ✨
