YMCA School Settlement & Youth Outreach

On Wednesday, MacPhee and one of our friends over at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Center, Robin Cunningham, went into John Martin Jr High School to lead and participate in their lunchtime multicultural club.

The youth and staff created word bubbles that discussed the importance of truth and reconciliation. Robin explained the reason behind wearing orange shirts to support Mi'kmaw culture, and also led us in discussing how we can spread more awareness and be a positive part of the healing process.

We want to thank the staff and John Martin Jr High for contacting us and the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre for helping MacPhee make this possible.

Congratulations to our Youth Outreach staff Midya, for getting the YMCA scholarship. You have been so dedicated since day 1. This is very well deserved!! .

Yesterday, our YMCA’s President & CEO, Brian Posavad, awarded 5 students the YMCA Langille Scholarship for $1,000 each at the John W. Lindsay YMCA. Each student has demonstrated leadership qualities through volunteer work and employment with the Y and is a shining example of how to build healthy communities through the power of belonging. We are incredible proud of them, and wish every applicant and recipient success in their studies this fall. This scholarship is made possible thanks to a donor’s support.

🎨✂️ Art Class at Youth Outreach! 🌟🧵

We had an amazing art class at Youth Outreach led by our SASS Team Lead, Olha Filipska! She taught us all about embroidery, from the main hand embroidery stitches to getting comfortable with basic cross stitches. The youth had a great time working on their own small projects and learning fascinating facts about Ukrainian traditions of cross stitch. Thank you, Olha, for a wonderful and informative session! 🌺🌼🌸

A huge thank you to the 40 incredible volunteers from Youth Outreach for their invaluable support during the Annual Emera Blue Nose Marathon 2023! It was an amazing weekend, and we are deeply grateful for your dedication and efforts. Your cheerful spirit while offering water to the runners made a significant difference.

We appreciate the positive impact you are making through your volunteerism, and it's inspiring to see the pride you take in your work. Great job, Youth Outreach team! 👏🤝💪
