Nurse’s Notes: 🕷️ Tick & Lyme Disease Awareness

May means more sun & more time outside, and it's also peak tick season in Nova Scotia

Ticks may be tiny, but Lyme disease is serious! The good news? Prevention is simple.
-Cover up + use repellent
-Stick to clear paths
-Do a full-body tick check after being outdoors

> Found a tick? Remove it right away, clean the area & monitor for symptoms.
⚠️ Watch for symptoms like a bullseye rash, fever, or fatigue, and seek care if unsure.

New in NS: Pharmacists can now assess tick bites & prescribe preventative antibiotics if needed - no appointment required.

Enjoy the outdoors - just be tick smart!

You might know Marisa for her skills with the puck 🏒 but she brings a whole lot more than strong stick handling to the ice.

A standout Husky, Marisa is also making waves as a leader & mental health advocate, supporting fellow athletes & the broader community through connection, conversation & action.

This 💙 Mental Health Week 💙 the message is "Come Together, Canada" and Marisa’s work is a powerful example of what that looks like in action.

That’s why she’s been named this year’s David G. Smith Memorial Award recipient!

On May 5, Red Dress Day, we honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

The REDress Project, created by Métis artist Jaime Black in 2010 (jaimeblackartist.com/exhibitions/), features empty red dresses in a powerful visual symbol of those who are missing and murdered, calling attention to the ongoing crisis of racialized, gendered violence.

We remember.
