Tutor holding PhD in Chemistry offering services to undergraduates at Dalhousie University. Hey there! My rate is $40 per hour.
I am here to support you as a tutor in your undergraduate chemistry courses. I have a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Toronto (2020) and a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Victoria (2015). I have prior experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate chemistry lectures and tutorials, as well as laboratory courses. Additionally, I have 9 years of laboratory resear
ch experience and have authored 15 research publications. My goal as your tutor is to use my collective expertise in chemistry to help you to understand the topics in your courses that are challenging to you and to present information in new ways that will make better sense to you. Typically, we will begin a session by reviewing the course materials that you are struggling with and I will address any questions that you have relating to these topics. Based on these questions and the course content, I will seek out supplementary materials to share with you to deepen your understanding. My background is in synthetic (inorganic) chemistry, but I am able to offer support in the following courses offered at Dalhousie:
If you wish to be tutored in other areas or are studying at another institution, please do contact me and we can better determine if I will be able to support your needs. It is important to me that students feel they are in a judgement-free place during a session: my aim is to improve comprehension and help students feel more confident in their existing understanding. So, I hope you will be comfortable in asking anything you like! To be clear, however: I will not accept payment to do your homework. I am happy to review practice examples and come up with further such problems to reinforce your understanding but I cannot and will not provide answers to assigned (gradable) work or exams, as this would be considered cheating for you (bad!) and is unethical to me. Similarly, I am happy to review laboratory report writing requirements and provide guidance on written reports, but I cannot edit your work or otherwise fix errors that I find. I will only ever pose questions to you about your work and point out problems. I offer both one-on-one and group tutoring sessions. Due to the on-going pandemic, my tutoring sessions will be virtual (Zoom or Teams) unless otherwise agreed upon. If meeting in person, I request that you remain masked for the duration of the session, and I will do the same. If meeting in person, we will reserve a space on campus in the interest of security. If you’d like to meet over Zoom to decide if I’m the tutor for you, I am happy to chat with you. I wish you the best of luck in your course work!
