Spring 2026 NSIS Travel Awards for Trainees
The Nova Scotian Institute of Science (NSIS) Conference Travel Awards are given out to individuals for the purpose of supporting the presentation of research that took place in Nova Scotia and where the researcher is based in Nova Scotia. Travel awards are limited to trainees (defined as: Postdocs, research assistants, graduate students, and undergraduates) who are members of the NSIS. The deadline to submit applications for Spring 2026 Travel Awards is July 3, 2026.
Proposed conference travel must occur between August 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027 to qualify.

Happy Retirement to Norma Keeping, long time Administrative Secretary at Earth and Environmental Sciences. Norma retired on May 29th after 45 years at Dalhouise.
EES would like to thank Norma for her years of service. Her legacy of hard work, dedication and kindness will not be forgotten.

Congratulations to Tessa Giacoppo and Lauren MacLellan recipients of this year's Marcos Zentilli Prize. Tessa was awarded best MSc poster presentation and Lauren was awarded best PhD poster presentation. The award, which was handed out at the annual EES graduate student research symposium and provides funds for use toward thesis research related expenses, celebrates the lifelong contributions that Professor Emeritus Marcos Zentilli has made in the field and to the department. We are grateful to Prof. Zentilli for funding the award, and for his continued interest and support of graduate research in EES.
Congratulations to all of the a graduate students for showcasing the excellent and diverse research being done in Earth and Environmental Sciences. A special shout out to Grad Society President Michael Powell for going above and beyond to organize the event, and to Graduate Affairs Student Representative Elahe Sirati for additional support.
