π°οΈπ‘ππ Did you know about Apollo 11β
π Apollo 11π, which took place from July 16 to 24, 1969, marked a historic American spaceflight during which humans first set foot on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot βBuzzβ Aldrin successfully landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on the Moon's surface on July 20, 1969. Armstrong achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first person to step onto the lunar surface July 21. Aldrin followed behind him. During their time on the Moon, they explored the area they named Tranquility Base, spending approximately two hours and 15 minutes together.
π‘While Armstrong and Aldrin were conducting their lunar activities, pilot Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Columbia. Together, they collected 47.5 pounds of lunar material to bring back to Earth. In total, Armstrong and Aldrin remained on the Moon's surface for 21 hours and 36 minutes before departing. This mission is a landmark achievement in human space exploration history.
