Back in 1961, Bill Swift Sr. and partner Dave Wainman turned a deep passion for outdoor adventure in Algonquin Park into ALGONQUIN OUTFITTERS.
Six and a half decades later, AO is still 100% family-owned and operated, driven by four passionate generations of Swift’s passing down the paddle.

If you’ve ever reached the remote northern shores of Cedar Lake or paddled through the Park’s Northern Reach, chances are you’ve felt the warmth, wisdom, and experienced the unmatched hospitality of Jake. As the longtime manager of the Algonquin Outfitters Brent Store and a lifelong Algonquin Park resident, Jake embodies the true spirit of the wilderness and canoe adventure.

For decades, he has been a guiding light for backcountry paddlers at the half-way turnaround point, and supply stop for AO’s iconic Brent Run and The Meanest Link endurance canoe routes. Offering everything from lifelong route advice and weather forecasts to unforgettable stories and a cold drink at the end of a long portage.

Raised on Cache Lake. 88 YEARS of passion exploring and educating on Algonquin Park’s wild spaces.
Decades of dedication to helping generations of paddlers explore Cedar Lake and Algonquin Park.
