2020 Guaranteed Funding
Successful applicants are guaranteed competitive funding support: a minimum of two Graduate Teaching Assistantships (approximately $5,925 per assistantship x 2 = $11,850). Students with strong qualifications will also receive a top-up scholarship in amounts which range from $6,000 to $14,000. By applying to the program candidates are automatically considered for the two GTA positions and for scholarships; there is no need to apply separately for funding. In the 2020 admissions round, the University of Guelph will match the funding packages offered by other universities. Students who are considering other offers are asked to give us the opportunity to match competing funding packages.
Pedagogical Training and Teaching Experience
In addition to the financial assistance provided by the two GTA positions, the School of Languages and Literatures considers the teaching experience it gives its graduate students to be a great opportunity for professional development. At the beginning of the fall semester, the School provides training in pedagogy to all incoming graduate students. Students may also choose to attend, without cost, the on-campus Graduate Student Teaching Conference prior to the start of the fall semester, as well as additional seminars and workshops offered by Teaching and Support Services throughout the academic year. Upon completion of a combination of these opportunities, students will receive a College of Arts certificate.
